Academics are the crux of why we go to school and how we become prepared for the future. This year we will learn in a variety of methods to ensure that we all get the opportunity to understand and apply new information. One of our big goals for this year is to figure out how we learn best, we will accomplish this through academic and self-reflection, goal-setting based on individual data, and one-on-one teacher conferences. I believe it is important that children learn how to work with one another effectively and efficiently. Collaboration and collaborative learning is key to preparing future leaders and members of society.
During the 6th grade year, all subjects except for math will be taught by your homeroom teacher (me). In order to most effectively teach math, we will be conducting a grade-wide walk to math. Students will be placed in one of the three math classrooms based on their MAP scores, EnVision placement test, and 5th grade teacher recommendation.

Personalized Learning
Personalized learning is the structuring of schools, classrooms, and instruction so we can better respond to the individual needs of students. Personalized learning shifts from a one-size-fits-all model of education to one which better prepares students for the jobs and needs of the future. In this class we will be personalizing learning in a variety of ways.
This list will continue to expand throughout the year, but these are the major ways in which we will continue down the path of personalizing learning. |
